Pomegranate juice is the flavoring in grenadine syrup/mixer which is used in making Shirley Temple's and Cherry Cokes and is the red in a Tequila Sunrise.

We have an Odwalla fridge at work which is always stocked with like 6-8 different products.
I have probably drank a couple hundred dollars of Odwalla over the past few months. I won't ever pay for them in a store though, too overpriced. |

Pomegranates frighten me. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The word "grenade" is derived from the Old French (pome) grenate ("pomegranate"), in reference to the general size of early grenades, and because its shrapnel pellets reminded soldiers of the seeds of this fruit. [/ QUOTE ] |

[ QUOTE ]
What does fruit does it taste the most like? Cranberry? [/ QUOTE ] The fruit itself is unique and varies a lot depending on ripeness. The riper the fruit the more the flavor skews towards a combination of cherry and black currant. Earlier in the season, the seeds are much more tart. The bottled juice tends to taste a little like beets. Freshly squeezed pomegranate juice has a much lighter, more pleasant flavor. POM brand is nothing special. Those of you who are big pomegranate fans should track down a bottle of pomegranate molasses. Apparently it is a staple of Middle Eastern, especially Persian, cooking. It can be used as a finishing type item to drizzle on grilled meats or as a dipping sauce. I used it a lot as a glaze. Essentially it is heavily reduced pomegranate juice. Very unctuous. The make a grape molasses as well. I planted a pomegranate tree at the old house and have always eaten several times the standard per capita consumption level of the fruit. |

Angus - the little seeds look like hibernating larvae that are waiting to pounce in my digestive tract.
