Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****
Hey, I just remembered...I think we'll get to see Armando Benitez again this weekend. :-) Of course this time he will probably pitch 3 innings with 7 K's.

Way to be a completely asinine comment Cortz. [/ QUOTE ] In case you're not aware, Cortz is retarded. I mean in the drooling, diaper-wearing, brain-damaged sense of the word. I also wondered why he'd concede a run there ... and I like Willie. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I don't know how I didn't pick up on this sooner... [ QUOTE ] I also wondered why he'd concede a run there ... and I like Willie. [/ QUOTE ] The only thing that I can come up with is that he: A) was playing scared and was afraid of a big inning and B) he thought that a 4 run Braves lead in the 7th wasn't insurmountable I know the Braves bullpen hasn't been great but you have to figure when they can trot out there Moylan, Dotel, Soriano and Wickman (although Wickman was hurt) you are not going to score 4+ runs on those guys the vast majority of the time. Those 4 pitchers (despite their blowups) have combined for 181 innings pitched this season so far and an ERA of 3.28. As long as I'm on Willie..... I would also like him to stop sacrificing Reyes over to 2nd or 3rd base with Castillo in the 1st inning. Castillo is a .300 hitter who rarely grounds into double plays. Let the guy swing already. |

That series made my physically ill, again.
I've stopped caring about winning the division or getting into the playoffs, though both will probably happen. I just want to see some proof that the team is going to start playing well and get hot when it actually matters. It really is odd that I'm fairly certain we'll be in the playoffs, and yet have zero confidence we'll win more than one series. |

This would be a championship team with Pedro - i.e., Pedro from the 1990s.

I just don't know if your offensive unit is enough to win a title. Atleast they haven't shown it yet. Yeah, some NL teams might beat the Mets in the playoffs, but I don't think any NL team can beat a top 5 AL team this season. Maybe it'll happen again like last year but Boston, the Angels, the Yankees now, Cleveland and Detroit (how it was playing earlier this year) seem to be better than all of the NL teams. |

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****
The thing is that I believe Maine, Perez and El Duque to be pretty good 2-4 starters, but none of them qualifies as a lights-out ace. And having one pitcher like that - I believe - makes a huge difference in the playoffs.

[/ QUOTE ]\ Capone, I agree with pretty much everything you've said. I also think the AL will almost certainly have a big advantage in the World Series no matter what teams are represented. But yeah, you never know. As far as the Mets offense is concerned I also agree on that. Yes Delgado and Beltran have had sub par years. Green, Alou and Lo Duca are all declining as well. However, the offensive unit has been so hurt all year I can't remember the last time the starting 8 out of spring training actually played in the same game. Hopefully Beltran comes back this weekend and we will once again see a lineup like this playing together at the same time: Reyes, Castillo, Beltran, Wright, Delgado, Alou, Green/Milledge, Lo Duca. Even though the bottom half of this lineup is declining (or unproven in Milledge) it's still pretty formidable. The problem is we haven't see a lineup like this since early May. |

Beltran back in the lineup tonight.
Hopefully he's back for real and isn't pulling his usual "I am back but I'll [censored] it up for 3 weeks and tell everybody how I'm playing hurt" |
