Re: WTF is up with %1000
Educate me please. I am unaware of reliable configurations that can handle this. If you can point me a viable solution to this problem I'll certainly investigate it.

[/ QUOTE ] Look I'm no computer expert but it wouldnt surprised me if the company that hosts your servers also has some sort of protection against DoS attacks and any other scripters bombarding the system. The easiest thing to do is to ask them to block an IP for a day when it queries it nonstop like that in a short amount of time. |

Re: WTF is up with %1000
I don't even understand why an "attack" like this would even mess up the system. It looked like the views were going up by, say, 2-3 per second; is that many requests really enough to take down 2+2? Is the database, which already handles a [censored] of requests, not able to handle the extra load? And it's not even like opening a thread is an expensive operation...I mean, grab the text of posts, increase views by 1, that's it.

Re: WTF is up with %1000
Was it an actual attack or simply someone requesting pages over and over?
What was being affected, CPU cycles, RAM/resources or bandwidth? |

Re: WTF is up with %1000
I don't want to get too technical, but tum explained it well when he said all you have to do bring down any site on any of the internets is to press the keys "f" and "5" on your keyboard, one after the other, very quickly.
Something about tubes, he said. |

Re: WTF is up with %1000
I'm pretty sure it wasn't a bandwith problem but an over request that overworked the CPU.
The CPU was probably trying to process something like 50 requests per second (assuming nustar was actually using some sort of auto refresh script and didn't just set up his drinking bird to hit f5.) + all other normal requests and that just caused the CPU to die in a fire essentially. |
