3 Ryan Howard - Fine. Really anyone from 2-8 is about equal.
22 Grady Sizemore - A little early for my tastes, but OK.
27 Chris Carpenter - I'm not a fan of taking non-Santana pitchers early.
46 Jake Peavy - I'm not a fan of taking two non-Santana pitchers early
51 Brian McCann - Nor am I a fan of taking catchers early
70 Troy Glaus - Pretty good pick.
75 Adam Dunn - Good pick. It seems youll be sacrificing .AVG with lots of lower .AVG hitters.
94 Chris Ray - Fine. Standard closer.
99 Jered Weaver - I think you would have been better off just taking Carp or Peavy and taking Weaver as your #2.
118 Brian Fuentes - Fine. Standard Closer. Has good K potential.
123 Chris Capuano - Solid #3
142 Eric Gagne - Too risky for me. I'd rather have Torres or McClung.
147 Prince Fielder - Great pick.
166 Felipe Lopez - Another good pick
171 Brandon Phillips - Good value here too.
190 Michael Cuddyer - Not a huge fan of him. Some are.
195 Anibal Sanchez - Ok.
214 Aubrey Huff- Ok.
219 Mark Teahen - Good sleeper.
238 Dave Roberts - I think you had enough steals to this point, but thats ok.
243 Kevin Mench - I think you may have had better options, but if you think he is a good sleeper, to each his own.

[/ QUOTE ]

H2H is about POWER, POWER, and more POWER. HR, R, and RBI, hopefully .avg. In H2H, steals are very undependable, as speedy player X may steal 6 one week and 0 for a long time after. So I think Grady, Roberts, and Lopez may be a little overkill. I dont think you have the best team in your league, but you certainly didn't draft a bad team. You'd probably make the playoffs if you dont screw up.

Keep 12. Who should i be keeping? 10 or so are obvious, the rest are not.

[/ QUOTE ]

So i think im going...

Crawford, Bay, Abreau, Reyes, Wright, Tiexiera, Figgins, Ortiz, Martinez, Oswalt, Halladay & Sheets

I could change Abreau or Sheets to Ryan BUT the league has some bad categories like IP and SHO, so SPs are worth a little more. Thoughts?

This is just an experiment, see how well this works. Just completed a mock draft at mockdraftcentral. Was a 10p standard 5x5 roto. Positions a bit wonky, C 1b 2b ss 3b CI MI of of of ut. Not going to say for now which team is mine. Would like some comments basically on which 2-3 teams you think are best.

Link to the Mock Draft results is here.

Again, this is just an experiment; this format lets us analyze a draft in full, without any team bias. Thoughts?

[/ QUOTE ]

i don't really have the time to analyze and compare everyone's full team, so i'm just going based on some of the best value picks. (i am tempted to choose redbirds just for the hideo nomo pick though.)

just at a glance, the guy who grabbed chris young, escobar, and valverde late seems like a decent choice. he also made some good mid-round picks, but kind of screwed up the more important early rounds by taking tejada over ramirez and vmart over mccann, and taking sheffield in round 8.

angry wookies, mock man, and united all had good early rounds and then just stop taking useful players after a certain point, with the occasional exception.

trying to keep my criticisms to a minimum:

- anyone from 2-8 is absolutely not 'about equal'. i see the same error made every year in fantasy football, where people argue they would rather have a late pick so they can have two solid starting running backs. the talent curve is steepest in round 1. always has been, always will be. it is important to get your round 1 pick right.

howard was probably a poor choice over someone from the group of pujols, santana, soriano, reyes.

- there is nothing wrong with taking non-santana pitchers if they are good values. it is wrong to enter your draft with the mentality that you will not take a pitcher under any circumstances with a certain pick. you are simply passing up value if you refuse to take peavy at 46.

if he says to himself before the draft "i'm taking pitchers with my third and fourth picks," that is a mistake.

- there is nothing wrong with taking a catcher early. their numbers might not look great, but the combination of a .300-25-90 catcher and a late-round first baseman is usually better than a .310-30-100 first baseman and late-round catcher.

- clearly you are okay with punting a category now. i thought your stance on that was well established?

- though steals are slightly more inconsistent than homers--because your speedster could be facing mike piazza for a series--this is not nearly as big a factor as it is made out to be. would anyone really have been better off in last year's h2h with a 'consistent' power hitter like chris shelton or adam dunn? dunn might have single-handedly killed your team in the playoffs.

does the league have additional hitting categories also? each of those dilutes the value of steals substantially, so figgins may not be worth keeping.

I just traded Harden for Garza, and because of Garza's status, I can use my minor league exemption on him for next offseason, and the offseason after(meaning I don't have to use a keeper spot on him) Either Zito or Burrell will replace Harden's spot.

Is this as awesome for me as I think it is?

eh, i'd say it's a good trade, but i wouldn't call it awesome. garza has limited upside.

i'd keep burrell, btw.

ugh ditch figgins now

replace him with one of weeks, ryan, tracy. player forecast manager on bp is probably the place to go to determine which, although i doubt they have shutouts.

really, you should lobby the league to eliminate shutouts. talk about the ultimate luckbox stat...
