Mickey Tettleton Brett Butler [/ QUOTE ] WHAT? Neither of these guys were obscure. Butler had 2,375 hits and stole more than 500 bases. Tettleton had 250 homers, played several different positions and was in the top 5 in walks six of the seasons he played, that's the top 5 in the league in walks! He had one of the greatest eyes in the game. They BOTH were all-stars too. |

Re: Post the name here of a random 1980s baseball player
[ QUOTE ]
So I am looking at Sam Horn's stats, and I can't seem to look away. If any of you are baseball stat geeks like me, check out his stats and see how many odd/unusual things you can find. http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hornsa01.shtml [/ QUOTE ] Sam Horn hit a foul popupthat landed 2 rows above me at a Royals game. While everyone was floundering around, I just watched the row above me for the ball to come squirting down. Sure enough it appeared. I managed to get my left hand over it a millisecond before two other hands converged on top of mine. I had to yank pretty hard to get it out of there. It sill has a black smudge from that. I thought the dude next to me was going to tackle me for it. All that over a silly regular season foul popup. I can't imagine the ugliness over a record breaker. Also the biggest regret I have is not giving the ball to this little kid who came up to look at it. It just sits in a box somewhere in my house. Big whoop. |

Cecilo Guante Orestes Destrade (career started in the 80s) also i think Horn was Yankees' property for one year but never got a chance in the bigs - I remember as a kid wondering why the hell they never gave him a shot |
