[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Per rotoworld.com "According to ESPN, Julio Lugo has been traded to the Dodgers for Joel Guzman and Sergio Pedroza" [/ QUOTE ] Jesus. Dodgers get pwnd. Guzman is a top level prospect, although I think he's overrated. Pedroza has some awesome numbers in A ball but I've never heard of him. He's 22... [/ QUOTE ] Please contradict yourself more. [/ QUOTE ] huh? do you like this trade for LAD? [/ QUOTE ] I can't figure out what side you like and why you think the Dodgers got pwned. It's not like you just gave away two top prospects, and it's not like your the Nationals/Reds/Giants and only have 2 or 3 decent prospects in your whole system. The Dodgers have one of the deepest farm systems in baseball, so they could make this and be ok. Since Lugo wants to stay at SS, it'll be hard to sign him to a long term deal though. |

Re: **Trading Deadline Thread **
It's pretty obviously a great trade for Tampa. Guzman is very highly regarded and easily worth more than a few months of Lugo. Even if I think he's overrated. Plus the other guy looks like he could be pretty useful. Why does LAD need Lugo anyway when they just got Betemit?

Re: **Trading Deadline Thread **
So the Nationals pretty much have to vastly overpay for Soriano now right? Bowden cant think he will keep his job if his first major act under the new owners is to get nothing for their best player.

It is becoming quite clear now that nobody knows what the hell is going on with the Linebrink deal.

Re: **Trading Deadline Thread **
I just heard on the radio that the Braves trade Jorge Sosa to the Cards for a middle reliever whose name I didn't recognize and don't remember. I can't find anything online about it though.
EDIT: Minor League right-hander Rich Scalamandre. |

Metsblog backtracking on their statement of Linebrink deal being official. Either way I like it. You either get a potential excellent young starter in Perez, or you get a stud reliever. [/ QUOTE ] Potential excellent starter? According to the Mets site, "Perez, 24, was 2-10 with a 6.63 ERA in 15 starts for the Pirates. In 76.0 innings, he yielded 88 hits, 64 runs, 56 earned, with 51 walks and 61 strikeouts. In addition, the 6-3, 210-pounder started six games for Indianapolis (AAA) of the International League after he was optioned to the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate on June 29th. Oliver was 1-3 with a 5.63 ERA in those six starts at Indianapolis. In 32.0 innings, he surrendered 28 hits, 21 runs, 20 earned, with 11 walks and 34 strikeouts. Perez constructed a 7-5 mark with a 5.85 ERA in 20 starts in 2005 with the Pirates. In 103.0 innings, he permitted 102 hits, 68 runs, 67 earned, with 70 walks and 97 strikeouts. He won a career-high 12 games and finished sixth in the NL in ERA (2.98) and was fourth with 239 strikeouts in 196.0 innings in 2004. Oliver has recorded 632 strikeouts in 591.2 career innings. He is 29-40 in six seasons with a 4.56 ERA in 105 games, 104 starts with the Padres and Pirates." Sounds like this guy has fallen off a cliff. |

Re: **Trading Deadline Thread **
The Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals completed a two-player trade this afternoon, as the Braves sent right- anded pitcher Jorge Sosa to the Cardinals in exchange for right-handed relief pitcher Rich Scalamandre.
Scalamandre, 25, will be assigned to the Braves' Triple-A Richmond affiliate. He has posted a combined 7-0 record with two saves, 48 strikeouts and a 4.44 ERA in 48.2 innings pitched at two minor league levels this season. Scalamandre opened the 2006 season with Springfield (AA) and went 4-0 with two saves and a 4.55 ERA in 29 appearances. He was promoted to Memphis (AAA) in late June and went 3-0 with a 4.26 ERA in 15 outings. The Cardinals' 23rd-round selection in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, Scalamandre owns a 22-5 record, 214 strikeouts and a 3.50 ERA in his five minor league campaigns (231.1 IP). Sosa, 28, went 3-10 with a 5.46 ERA in 26 games (13 starts) for the Braves in 2006, following a 13-3, 2.55 season in 2005. Better than nothing, they had DFA'd him. |

Re: **Trading Deadline Thread **
He has fallen off but he is still very young and has outstanding potential; he probably won't reach it, but I'd think he has a 10-12% of being an all-star calibur starter once again someday.
