Removing a PCI-E video card
I have an Asus A8N5X motherboard and I'm trying to remove my PCI-E video card. It has that plastic tab thing at the end and it snapped off. I've tried pretty much everything and the video card won't budge at all. Can anyone help me out? How does that locking mechanism work? It seems like that since it's broken off,it should just come right out.

Re: Removing a PCI-E video card
If the tab snapped off, it doesn't necessarily mean the actual locking piece came with it, so I'd look closely if the locking piece is still engaged. If its definitely not there, I'm not sure.

Re: Removing a PCI-E video card
Take extreme caution.
If the tab has snapped off, but the locking pin remains in place - take a small plastic implement, like a pen (with the nib recessed / removed), and gently push the pin while "wobbling" the card - once it is past a certain point, it should be easy. Of course, you will neeed to fully remove the pin before putting in a new card or you will have the same problem again. If you can post pics of the locking mechanism, better advice will follow (I can't remember an A8N5X exactly) Hopefully you don't break anything dave. |

It didn't appear to be touching the video card at all, but it was. Unscrewed that and barely touched the card and it came out. I was seriously about to do some drastic [censored] to get it out. Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it. |

Re: Removing a PCI-E video card
god that tab on pci-e slots is dumb. you would think that at some point in testing the concept someone would have realized that everyone would end up snapping them off.
