I assume they are bluffing
I've been playing no limit for about 5 months now - the part of my game thats the weakest is making good laydowns. I seem to pay off many times when I have the feeling I'm beat, but am not sure - like getting away from AA on a semi scary board. I've just realized that the first thing I put my opponent on is a bluff - its like I'm paranoid about being bluffed. If I just assumed opponent is not bluffing, I think I could make better laydowns. Besides that, could someone share their thought process or give advice on how I can make better laydowns? Any ideas/tricks?

Re: I assume they are bluffing
Just play as much as u can. Spotting bluffs comes from experience. Be sure to practice bankrollmanagement and don't bust.

Re: I assume they are bluffing
Its better in the long run to assume they aren't bluffing and look for the spots where they are, than to assume they are bluffing and look for the spots where they aren't.

Re: I assume they are bluffing
it comes from experience but generally go back through the hand and see if it all adds up. if so your opponent is probably not bluffing.
It is very player dependant obviously but dont just go off instinct. |

Besides that, could someone share their thought process or give advice on how I can make better laydowns? Any ideas/tricks? [/ QUOTE ] 1. play a shitton of hands 2. practice your hand reading skills. try to guess the players cards in hands that you aren't even involved in. 3. read as much 2+2 as you can 4. stop being scared of being bluffed. sometimes you lay down the best hand, big deal! if you want to become a great poker player stop trying to convince yourself that your opponent is bluffing when the chance he has a hand that beats yours is much more likely. once you have a good feel on estimating your opponents range of hands given, the line he took, table conditions, table image, etc, you will be a much more complete, confident, and well-rounded player capable of making big lay downs and big calls. becoming good at this takes time, but is well worth the effort. |
