thank god lowell stays with the sox.
the yankees now are free to look for 1B, CF, and backup C options, without too much pressure to sign anyone. |

Re: ***yankees official offseason thread*****
rundown of 2008 salaries
arod 27.5 posada 13 rivera 15 mussina 11 jeter 20 giambi 21 damon 13 abreu 16 matsui 13 pavano 11 igawa 4 farns 5.5 --------------- total 170 (geezuz-h) (edit: for 2009, pavano, mussina, abreu, farnsworth are off the books -- 43.5M. for 2010, giambi, matsui, damon -- 47M. for 2011, jeter's 21M is gone. that's $111M in salaries. only abreu and jeter will probably be resigned, hopefully at discounts. and of course johan can be added at 17.5M+.) the rest being negligible (0.5 and less). that's 10 players, plus pavano and igawa, only one of whom has a shot at the 25-man roster. cano, wang, hughes, chamberlain, kennedy, cabrera, betemit are locks to round out the roster at this point. that's 7 more players. so say that's 18 players. between wang, hughes, chamberlain, kennedy, mussina and igawa, that's 5 starters and one BP/AAA guy. possible minor leaguers : duncan, karstens, clippard, desalvo, bruney, brower, rasner, britton, veras, ramirez, ohlendorf possible FAs : pettite, molina. |

He had a good year in the minors, but only hit a whopping 11% of his balls for line drives and 13 HR split between A and A+. Now he's having a nice showing in winter ball. He is a premium prospect, just not one that's going to be starting 2008 in the show. |
