NL5 Good spot for AK?
Villan is 41/10/1.5 over 50 hands in this session. How do you feel about my call of the 4bet and flop play?

Don't call 4bets with AK at NL5, ever

Re: NL5 Good spot for AK?
Have you got any 3-betting or 4-betting history with villain? If you think he is a nit, you need to fold here... People often 4-bet with AA, KK and AK only... against that range you're basically dead meat. If you think can open up his range up to a point to which you are at least a coinflip, calling is fine. If you think villain will call a shove with hands worse than yours, then shoving is fine...

Re: NL5 Good spot for AK?
i agree with infinity, in fact i think that shoving preflop is fine too (except - as said - if villain is really tight)
you pick up the money already in the pot often enough. And if you get called: against AA you are in trouble, against KK you are dead to an Ace , against all other hands you have at least a coinflip. On the other side, if you miss the flop, AK isn't a good hand to play out of position. Heffer |

Re: NL5 Good spot for AK?
Preflop is either a push or a fold. I've never played at the $5NL tables so I don't really know the dynamic, but against a standard 41/10/1.5 a really big four-bet worries me. I'm willing to give a range of maybe JJ+ with a tiny chance of AK, and against that range we're kind of dogmeat. Folding to the four-bet would not be out of the question; the only legitimate alternative to my mind is five-betting all-in. Smooth-calling a 90 BB bet and then "playing poker" postflop just seems like a recipe for disaster with a hand like AK that rarely flops better than TPTK.
Without any extra information, I think I'm dumping this hand preflop after the four-bet. |
