[ QUOTE ] ya just bc its not stealing doesnt mean its not wrong, morally and legally. [/ QUOTE ] and just bc it is wrong, doesn't mean pbob isn't an idiot for posting: [ QUOTE ] That is stealing. How did you get so stupid? [/ QUOTE ] (and you aren't even worse for thinking he was smart for saying it) [/ QUOTE ] KneeCo-- I think it's not so terrible for PBob to conflate the strict legal sense of "stealing" with a looser ethics-based one. It's not the best English usage--and I'm a total nit about these things--but I think it's basically clear what he meant, and I also think he's basically right. I understand that you might disagree about some of the above, but I think it's important to see that there's at least a sense in which PB might not have been incorrect, or even imprecise (there are fairly precise colloquial senses of "steal"). --Nate |

FWIW, anytime you have to rationalize something, it's wrong. If you have to search for reasons why it's *not* wrong, then it's wrong. Take an intro class in ethics, and you'll finally be enlightened. Much props to all the sane voices in this thread that have said the same. It's great to see people in this day and age arguing for doing right.

Do you think she would get in trouble with the casino because of the money, or because she [censored] up so bad? Would she get in just as much trouble if the money was returned? I mean they probably assume she didn't steal it.
Maybe somehow they couldn't figure out who was short the $1000, or maybe she realized her mistake, and made some adjustments so she wouldn't get in trouble, and now the only way she'll get caught is if you return it. |

morality is in the eye of the beholder /thread [/ QUOTE ] Really? So, there is no absolute evil? I get that bin Laden and his crew believed that they were doing right in the eyes of Allah, so you just write off their actions as "morality is in the eyes of the beholder"? What about Hitler? Post-Modernism never ceases to amaze me. Seriously...how does the idea that there is no absolute morality even creep into society's thought, or the zeitgeist, at all? |

I guess what I was trying to say is that the moral relativism exhibited by the masses during this POMO period never ceases to amaze me. |
