Re: cottage cheese
About the fat-free issue: I haven't tried any form of cottage cheese for 30 years, when my mother was dieting and I was curious. It was bad enough then that I never gave it another thought until now.
I just assumed that most would recommend fat-free. But now it's sitting in my refrigerator and I'm afraid. |

Re: cottage cheese
Off the top of my head:
Cottage cheese and pineapple are a natural, but a lot of fruit is good. You could use it in place of where you might otherwise use ricotta. There a lot of pancakes that use fruit & cottage cheese. Also, blend cocoa powder + cottage cheese. Anyway, I don't eat it much, and do like the taste enough to eat it plain, but maybe these ideas help. |

It's delicious all by itself, I add chives sometimes.

Re: cottage cheese
How about just low-fat cottage cheese, rather than non-fat? Is that gross too?

Re: cottage cheese
best cottage cheese i've had is horizon...but the vermont stuff from TJs was good and so is freindship... unfortunately most of them are really high in sodium, one of the few reasons why i stopped eating it. In my prime I was going through 3 containers/week.

Re: cottage cheese
I prefer Breakstones 2% for taste, I haven't tried too many kinds though. I usually eat it plain but mix with peaches, pineapples, or chives once in a while for some variety. I like to eat ground beef with salsa or taco sauce and CC. I have also tried to get people to enjoy it by dipping tortilla chips (might not be in your diet) in salsa and then CC.
I enjoy the taste of CC, I eat about 6 pounds a week, I have tried fat-free of 2 different brands and never ate more than a bite. Edit: if you really don't like the taste you might want to checkout some casein protein, I have heard good things about the milk protein isolate at trueprotein.com (I am in no way associated with the site) |
