Re: 5NL -- Flop Trip Aces, Villain calls Bets, Do I Fold River?
Everything in this hand just screams "no, no, no!"
Fold preflop. Suited aces are worth calling with in position, and here you first limp (clearly showing that you have a hand you'd like to see a cheap flop with) and then, when button does a really small raise, you call again. Your hand is now only worth playing with if you flop a big draw or boat/quads. I don't mind the flop check-raise, since it is still possible that villain was slowplaying a pair of paint. However, raise bigger. You need to know exactly where you are with your hand. For me this is one of the few spots worth overbetting the pot on flop. Raise to $0.55. If villain doesn't fold, your hand is dead. That kind of raise shouldn't be called by anything other than bigger aces and QQ. Since both A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] are on board, you can remove other flush draws than KJs from villain's holding, and that gives him a royal draw which he will not fold. C/f turn and river. The villain calls your flop c/r, calls overbet on turn and you honestly expect to have the best hand? No chance. I think you ran into a flopped boat. |
