Re: Home poker cheating - how common is it?
And since I am once again really bored tonight, here is an example of what I am talking about.
It does not have to be this blatant, especially if the dealer rotates the deck perpendicular to the table, he can peek into a very tiny split. |

Here is an example where the dealer has rotated the deck perpendicular to the table so he can make a smaller slit to peek into.

Re: Home poker cheating - how common is it?
And with a little practice, the turn and river can be seen in one quick peek. Hmm a runner runner to the steel wheel I see...
Did I mention that I was bored? |

Re: Home poker cheating - how common is it?
Thanks for the tips as well as what to look out for. What do you guys do if a new player to your home game accuses your close group of friends or you personally of cheating them even thought its complete crap?

[ QUOTE ] 8. Keep your eyes on the deck at all times. The most common cheat I have seen is the “peek”, where the dealer riffles up the top cards on the stub to see what is coming on the turn and river. This is easy to spot, but you have to watch! Not sure what you mean, I think. You don't allow dealers to look at the deck do you? I hope you don't allow the dealer to look at the card as/before he is turning it. [/ QUOTE ] Our players deal, with the deal rotating, so our players deal and our dealers play. Definitely not allowed to look at the stub, so it is cheating when they do. A dealer who is playing in the hand can slyly thumb through the top cards of the deck when nobody is looking, and this is the cheat I am talking about. [/ QUOTE ] Ok, thanks, I thought you meant something else. |

Wow, thanks for all these tips on how to cheat! [/ QUOTE ] Actually these are tips on how to spot other people cheating, but I know what you mean... Maybe I should keep this to myself? This technique is already out there in several books on the subject, so this is nothing new. Anyway, I feel that the more people know about cheating, the harder it will be for unethical people to get away with it. |

Re: Home poker cheating - how common is it?
No, you shouldn't keep it to yourself. It's not like any basic magician's handbook wouldn't have this sort of thing anyway. One of the most recent places I saw it was in a Cisco course. The instructor was a former magician and used old tricks as breaks. He was a pretty good mechanic.
