[ QUOTE ] Use the Stars.bat file to launch Stars and presto, your modded alert sound is used. [/ QUOTE ] How do you use the file to launch stars? I click the shortcut and it opens as a text doc again. [/ QUOTE ] Sounds like you saved the file as stars.bat.txt instead of stars.bat |

[ QUOTE ] I would like windows to be able to set the volume separately for each program running. I don't know if this is infeasible, I don't see why it would be. [/ QUOTE ] This is possible if you run Vista. [/ QUOTE ] qft, vista includes a software 'mixer' with which u can change the volume for specific programs, allowing you to run stars normally and change its volume independently from your video/mp3 software without any altered wav files or batch file shenanegans |

Re: Pokerstars Alert Sound Volume
wowm vista sounds pretty cool for letting you adjust the volume for each program. Really wished I had that capability.
Obviously the simplistic response of just turning down the volume isn't helpful at all. If I have the volume at a level where all the other sounds are comfortable for me but the alert thing is super-duper loud then this solution is either implying that I should just learn to deal with the sound being lower than I would like for everything BUT alerts...or that I should somehow have the capability to turn the volume really fast right before an alert is about to come. I agree this is a real annoyance and Stars should do something about it and people shouldn't have to do it themselves. If I'm playing with headphones on and everything else is at a nice volume then the alerts practically kill my ears. Being able to adjust the volume on each sound without having to go into the file and change it myself would be really nice. |

Re: Pokerstars Alert Sound Volume
- lower main volume
- adjust volume in each program that allows (e.g. WinAmp is capable of and can handle all audio/video files) kinda quick sollution |

I don't think I know how to do this. [/ QUOTE ] Bob, the fix I used was VERY simple. I followed jasonHoldEm's instructions and replaced the original stars snd7.wav file with another .wav file that I found. There are many sites that host wave files, and I just surfed them until I found a sound to use that had the volume/sound characteristics that I was looking for, and ended in ".wav". I previewed them by playing them on my media player. I'm not much of a hacker, and even I had little trouble setting this up. |

"replaced the original stars snd7.wav file with another .wav file"
"Go into your PokerStars directory and find the Snd folder" You guys overestimate the competence of computer-morons like me. I guess I'll play around some and try to figure out where the pokerstars directory is. |

Re: Pokerstars Alert Sound Volume
Start by playing around with "windows explorer". It's a program in your start menu, from there you can navigate to your c: drive (your hard drive) and will find the pokerstars directories somewhere in the "program files" folder.
Good luck. |
