the beer hand
first-timer here (tho' i've been lurking/reading for a few weeks).
i have always heard that 72o (the beer hand) is the worst starting hand in hold'em. i just downloaded pokerstove and have been playing around with it: 72o vs. any random hand: 34.584% equity 32o vs. any random hand: 32.303% equity so, my question is: is what i've heard about "the beer hand" incorrect, or am i misunderstanding equity? -t |

Re: the beer hand
72o is the worst against 9 random hands. (In PokerStove, use the Monte Carlo option, not Enumerate All.) 32o is the worst heads-up. The chance to use both cards in a straight is more important against many opponents.

Re: the beer hand
72 is very useful for setting one of the guys in my home game on tilt. Raise PF, bet/raise on the flop and take it down. Then show him the bluff and he gets really frustrated. I did it to him twice last week.
