Re: Noob\'s first live outing, complete misfire at The Bike
"Please, sir, I would like to play in a no-limit Texas hold them (sic) game where the small blind is $1 and the large blind is $2."
MUSIC to my ears when I hear that in a Vegas room, and I hear that pretty often (though not as often as 3 or 4 years ago). |

Re: Noob\'s first live outing, complete misfire at The Bike
[ QUOTE ]
Board people in LA are mostly break ins and may possibly be not too familiar with poker in general. NL games are called by the buyins here. They should know what 1/2 NL is, but most do not have English as a first language so I can see problems arise. [/ QUOTE ] Even though he was Chinese Bike board person Benson (sp?) had about 100 years experience (they actually had a Card Player article about him ten years or so back). In any case a competent board should be able to figure out the OP meant blinds not the size of the buyins. Besides, average age of 1-2 holdem players (if they even spread it) is about 90. 1-2 blind $40 fixed buy NL players average age is about 23. ~ Rick |

Even an incompetent board should have been able to figure this out.

I think we should consider that some boards may have an attitude problem and need to prove superiority in passive-aggressive ways.

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] In the tradion of using the definite article when referring to highways, most (if not all) of Southern California insists on naming their no-limit games by the min/max buy-in NOT by the blinds. [/ QUOTE ] FYP It's always a source of amusement when someone from down south comes up to NorCal and asks for the 100 list. Even funnier when they try to buy in to the 100/200 limit game with a c-note. [/ QUOTE ] An exception to this would be at Bay101 or Garden City (both in San Jose). The game you're looking for at those places is 3-100. That is, 1/2/3 blinds with a $100 min/max buy-in. If you can afford it, though, I would recommend the 5-200 instead. The rake at 3-100 sucks. The difference is that San Jose does not allow for bets larger than $200. The card rooms get around that by playing a Spread Limit game. At 3-100, you can make a bet anywhere from $3 to $100. |

Re: Noob\'s first live outing, complete misfire at The Bike
Three to Five Hundred Dollar NL... or Three Hundred NL.
At Crystal we usually have pretty active and lively NL games. The $40 NL game (or as the OP put it $1/$2 NL) usually turns into mid or deep stack poker and is more often than not populated with great action or a good deal of donkeys. |
