But this was just my selfish list. If I had my druthers I'd also ban 2/4, 3/6, and NL1/2. Make people play for "real money" if they want to sit down.

[/ QUOTE ]

IMO this should't be a "ban". But its always struck me as strange that some rooms don't differentiate themselves by being a "real money" room. IIRC only the B doesn't spread these games. I think other high end rooms (like the V?) could benefit by making themselves appear more exclusive and upscale.

I don't know that Ballys gets more than their share of casual players.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe not, like I said, I'm not there (or in other LV rooms) all the time. But it certainly makes that impression.

But the Bally's room is wide open, right next to the pits. Anyone walking through that one aisle on the floor strolls right past it.

When sitting at one of the tables by the rail, I've seen people stroll up, watch, and then get talked into playing (helped do it once).

You simply aren't able to do that at Caesars.

Isn't there some hotel in Vegas that has no casino attached that one could attach a Card Barn to? Like the Jockey Club (how big is that?)

[ QUOTE ]
Without sufficient competition it doesn't matter what the market dictates. The poker rooms will rake whatever they can get away with so long as there isn't somebody across the street offering poker players a better deal.

[/ QUOTE ]

TT,

Earlier you pointed out the monopoly Foxwoods has. Yet they have never raised the rake. The room is crowded, games are good, If it wasn't profitable, I would imagine they wouldn't have expanded, though I guess the real value is in getting folks onto the premises.

Without competition, they could have raised the rake these last 5 or so years since Mohegan folded. Yes Mohegan is coming back into it, but if it is just a matter of whittling down the competition so rates can go up, why has foxwoods held the line?

Edit - The above quote wasn't from TT but from moneyline, but the question still stands about foxwood monopoly holding the line...

Venetian tried only spreading 2/5+ NL when they opened but they just didn't have the business to support it. But, well, they're tried a lot of things they didn't have the business to support.

Wynn is pretty close to B, they start at 4/8 and 1/3NL.

Why would they want to do that? There are very few players that come to Vegas at any given time that want to play big. Most whales want to play against the house, not other players.

I included PH on my list to shutdown 'cause it's not very large, parking sucks, and it's just a bit of an odd duck sitting in amongst Bally's/Bellagio/MGM in my list.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's why I like it - fewer locals.
It may only have a dozen tables or so, but it could fit a lot more if they crammed them together. There's just no need right now.

16 to be exact now which puts in on the larger end of the small rooms.

Btw, the parking isn't that bad and most strip casino parking sucks. Also, MGM garage is on Koval, a full block behind that of PH (which is on Audrey). Hell, valet at Paris and walk in the front door. The mall isn't that long to walk through, 3 minutes maybe from car to poker room. Some people are insanely lazy though and want the poker room at the car door when they park. And who drives in from the strip nowadays anyways? LOL Koval/Dean Martin FTW!

My least favorites to park in have to be Trop and Mandalay Bay.

rake is not the end of the world. if there is more game selection is it not that hard to make up for the larger rake.

you still don't get it... in the low limits the locals ARE often the fish! I played low-limit tonight with a student of mine, the only 1/2 way decent player at the table besides us was a tourist, the locals were all chronic gamblers who were guaranteed long term losers.
