Video Poker Progessive Royal Flush: Overlay here?
Don't have time to do the math, but I suspect the following machine I saw a few days ago at Harrah's Kansas City was +EV (I considered withdrawing a couple grand to take a shot):
$1 Jacks or Better 8/5 Machine. Royal Flush wins $5500 Progressive Royal Flush Jackpot (Typical $1 bet max 5 credits Jacks or Better should win $4000 for a Royal). How much of an overlay per/$5 wager can we expect in the long run here? |

I thought the Wizard of Odds had a chart wrt how high each progressive had to get before it was +EV.

On an 8/5 machine that is not even remotely close to +EV.

8/5 JoB with a 1100 coin progressive returns about 98.1% vs. 97.3% regular.

[/ QUOTE ] Did you realize the 8/5 hurt as much as it did? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I was tracking that 8/5 w/optimal strategy was around 97% payback vs. around 99.8% for 9/6 JOB. I simply thought the progressive would eat away more house edge than it actually did. 9/6 machines are a dying breed these days...the best I remember were in Ceasar's Indiana, a $.25 9/6 machine with a progressive Royal that was routinely around $1200. With the cashback and comps it was one of the best values in the casino. |
