Re: EDF Cooking Contest
I think that is a very good idea. I'd be open to re-trying a dish with tweaked ingredients, different methods, etc. And I'd be open to giving suggestions as well. Would make the contest more interactive and instructive.

Nobody really commented on it, but one idea I had above was that in a month-long contest, people could post as soon as they had something and after comments could potentially revise and resubmit the entry. [/ QUOTE ] I like this idea. I had a similar thought - as a forum design a dish, the components, talk about flavors and so on, and then everyone makes it and posts the results. Could be a competition or just a random "food club" exercise. |

Re: EDF Cooking Contest
Sapo,
I think having it in the context of a contest puts a fun twist on it and adds to the motivation. Obviously, the spirit of this contest is more fun than anything else, but having a timeframe constraint and a goal of winning, even if just for pride and glory, is nice. |

[/ QUOTE ] I would participate in one of these of course, but I would like to also see the "contest" live on, perhaps in the form el diablo mentioned above. Should we get something started before the weekend? I'll be home to cook fri and sunday (going to babbo on sat!) and would make a "contest" dish one of these nights if it is set up. |

Re: EDF Cooking Contest
BK,
Babbo trip report, pls! If you guys are up for it, want to try a month of strivign for grilling supremacy? In the meantime, think up ideas of fun ingredients for next time. OK, I'll let Mermade have the final say here, but since it was her idea I figure she'll be up for it so unless anyone objects, Mermade - start up a new thread for the Grillathon! |

Re: EDF Cooking Contest
I'm bummed I never got back to my tomato dessert. I had all sorts of plans, but then went out of town for a week, and then was sorta busy getting married, so the plans came to naught.
I made a yellow-tomato/lemon sauce, using yellow tomatoes, zest, sugar, and a little gelatin. I'd found these awesome grape tomatoes at the organic market, so bought them figuring I'd find a use later. I've seen a recipe for sugared cranberries, where they soaked them in syrup and then rolled them in sugar. So I soaked these in a simple syrup over night. And then got too busy with wedding stuff, left them there till they looked like raisins, and tossed them out. I don't know what my plan really was; I was thinking about a sort of cornbread-cake, with the yellow tomato sauce on top and the sugared grape tomatoes on the side. Ah well. I'll probably make the dish some time anyway, even though it's not eligible for the contest (with the big money and prizes). I'll try to stay on schedule next month. |

Re: EDF Cooking Contest
Sam,
On Top Chef last night they did a savory tomato bread pudding. Maybe some sort of savory/sweet version of that? |
