When to move up to 2-5
I've been making a pretty meger living (about $15 per hour) playing 1-2 NL in Vegas for about 7 months now.
My question is whether I should starting playing 2-5. I have the bankroll, but what is holding me back is knowing that I still have some areas I could improve. I don't value bet the river enough and just yesterday, I flopped top pair with AK and overplayed it...twice. If I move up now, I risk making the same mistakes I'm making now for more money. But if I refuse to move up until I think I'm playing perfect, I probably won't ever move up. I know there aren't really any clear cut rules about when to move up a level, but I was wondering if anyone had some general advice. thanks. |

Re: When to move up to 2-5
I think that you need to spot the areas that need improvement and work on them at 1/2. Take some time and work on them, because if you don't feel your ready your probably not. Because if you mess up at 2/5 in the same areas at 1/2, it will cost you twice as much. So once you feel you fixed your leaks move up and try it for a while. But if your a solid winning player at 1/2, and you fix them few areas, I think you will do very well.

Re: When to move up to 2-5
You don't become perfect by staying at SS forever, nor do you need to become perfect before moving up.. even high stakes players still make mistakes. If you got the bankroll to move up, allocate a part of it and move up, stop if you lose that part of your bankroll.
If you're in Vegas and purely results-oriented, don't bother playing the 1/2 tables with regulars. Find a conventions calendar and go to casinos where big conventions and parties are being held... 2/5 tables are full of fish. |

Re: When to move up to 2-5
you really make a living playing 1/2 live? if you make a living playing poker and are half decent, you should have no problem beating 2/5, 5/10 or maybe higher. is that all you play, live? no online poker?

Re: When to move up to 2-5
I think 2/5 is easier to beat than 1/2 in vegas for a decent player. Less nits and much smaller (relative) rake.
Can be wrong though. |
