Re: 2007-2008 NFL Predictions
[ QUOTE ]
Either people are doing some serious leveling here or alot of you should stick to poker. NFL Head Coaches have twice the impact on a game that any one player can have. Id love to back this up w/ bets but I dont really see a way thats possible. Hopefully Belichick winning the Superbowl this year will help. Football is the ultimate team sport, and every position is important, and every position has a direct impact on all of the other positions and the coach is the piece holding everything together. Im not going to argue this any further, as I said before if you are an informed fan this is clear as day. [/ QUOTE ] uh, no. everyone else here is closer to being right than you are. if you are an informed fan, i.e. swallow all the tripe the media feeds you, then yes, coaching is supremely important - luckily, there's about 32 great coaches in the NFL at one time! How many wins a year would you say are DIRECTLY attributable to coaching - how many points a game is a great COACH worth? On both sides of the ball even. |

Can you just give me a list of NFL coaches who have the ability to win a Super Bowl, as well as a list of those who are 100% unable to ever win one as a head coach (I believe you already mentioned Mike Tice)? |

They prob were born NFL caliber and NEs personal randomly picked their names out of a hat. NE is soooo lucky that they are the only team that can handle the off field actions of R. Moss. I bet R. Moss was willing to take a pay cut for NE only because he liked their team colors. I bet if Tom Brady was drafted by another team he would still be a 1st ballot hall of famer. God, Coaches are so unimportant. Also, there are no NFL coaches that are 100% unable to win a superbowl. Thats like saying that Rex Grossman is unable to win the superbowl because he is the worst NFL qb. Its definately possible. Why do you think Rex Grossman has a huge arm, and shows greatness at times but other times sucks? Prob has absolutely nothing to do with his QB coach or anything that isnt related to him specifically, some days his talent is lucky and other days his talent is unlucky right? Cuz its all about talent, duh. |

[ QUOTE ] Everybody else: Why do you think teams trade 2 1st rounders, 2 2nd rounders, and $8million for a coach, and the next year they win the superbowl? (I dont think Gruden is an amazing coach but it just shows that NFL Owners are on the same page as me.) [/ QUOTE ] Touting a fluke as proof of your point is ridiculous. Dungy had a lot of success, but the political climate for him was terrible. The next guy comes into a great team and wins the Super Bowl, never to be heard from again. [/ QUOTE ] That was definitely Dungy's team that won the Superbowl in Tampa. It was also Gruden's team that lost it. b |

Re: 2007-2008 NFL Predictions
BillNye,
I would like your opinion of: The best head coach The worst head coach The best quarterback The worst (starting)quarterback. And after you list those, you can honestly say you'd rather have a Bellicheck/crappy QB tandem than a Manning/crappy HC tandem |

Also, Grossman sucks because he went to school at Florida, and they didn't run an NFL-style offense; because he's a complete idiot who cares more about partying than being good at his job, he cannot (and never will be able to) read a defense. Oh, and he also sucks donkey balls (and really wasn't even that great in college to begin with). |

People thought the guy was only coordinator material - he didn't know that coaching wasn't just strategy, it was interacting with the players and coordinators. Maybe, he like, hired a coach to coach him about coaching! and like - that coach was the best coach coach in the NFL, and that's why Belicheck is now the best coach in the league! One wonders who coached the coach coach though.. |

Re: 2007-2008 NFL Predictions
Prediction: BillNye will amuse me for the next 20 weeks or so when I visit the sports forum.
I like how he says that Manning can't be used as an example because he just said a "good" quarterback, and not the "best." Yet he keeps talking about Belicheck over and over, who is pretty close to Manning in terms of "the best at their position." |
