Having something as an ideal is fine, but something can't be properly called a goal that is unattainable.

How about having as a goal, say, limiting restrictions on free speech to those that are absolutely necessary for society to continue to function?
Of course, I don't know that I would agree that any such restrictions are absolutely necessary, but I'm willing to discuss it... |
