that stat is thrown around a lot but very misleading. It is true only if you consider oral herpies (cold sores) and genital herpes to be the same.

Prevalence of HSV-2 (genital Herpes) is closer to 25% in the US. Most cases are subclinical.

I didn't look it up, but IIRC, HSV-1 (oral herpes) is close to 80%.


I would need a few other questions answered to put a value on your theoretical situation. Can i infect anyone? i.e. would I basically have to abstain from sex for 3 months? As this would pretty much ruin my relationship (if she remembered afterwards that I refused sex for three months), the value would be pretty damn high.

Howevever, if everything returns to status quo after three months and I can't pass it on and nobody remembers, i don't know, 5k sounds fine. If I can't have sex, but my relationship remains intact and nobody knows, 30k sounds fine.
