Re: Beat- I need a job!!!
[ QUOTE ]
I'm a (former) poker pro living in Las Vegas; I haven't worked since I graduated college (about 2-2.5 years). I went on a bit of a bad run of of cards while loaning out a significant portion of my bankroll to a friend in need. I was promised for 5 months that I would get my ~$6500 back. [/ QUOTE ] another one bites the dust... job ideas: valet parking, golf course, waiter life lesson: lose the douchey friend |

Re: Beat- I need a job!!!
This is my worst nightmare. Thanks for the reminder to NEVER make big loans to anybody.
What was the high point of your bankroll? What games and limits did you play? Was the loan for more than just living expenses? |

This is my worst nightmare. Thanks for the reminder to NEVER make big loans to anybody. What was the high point of your bankroll? What games and limits did you play? Was the loan for more than just living expenses? [/ QUOTE ] My high point was probably 35k. I got cocky after I got it up there in a blink of an eye. I took 2 shots at 10-25NL, buying in for 5k and lost all each time. Played terribly. Poker lesson- don't take shots if you fear losing the money. Treaded water for a while playing 30-60, my usual game, but pounded life. I bought everything I could and couldn't afford to. I'm the guy at the bar who buys every round of shots everytime and ovetips because he loves the attention. I played mostly 15-30 and 30-60 LHE throughout most of this. My bankroll stayed in the 15-25k range for about a year, but I lived large and only played 10-30 hours a week. I got very lazy because I thought I'd always run okay. I hit some nasty run bad, both live and online. At the same time I moved a friend of mine since childhood out here, loaned him $2000 to get started and paid for everything he ate, drank, needed, etc. for 4.5 months. The total is up to $7000. he just came clean that he can't pay me, though he has been stringing me along that his dad was waiting for a check to pay me with. Meanwhile, I made the mistake of including this theorhetical money in my very real bankroll. He is moving out today, breaking the lease and sticking me with no roommate. DOUBLE beat- He crashed my car, totaled it, and I can't afford to fix it so I have to take a small loan from my parents so I can RENT a CAR to go to job interviews. My life blows right now. hahahaha So anyway, I made a lot of mistakes in this case. I got screwed, but I also screwed myself. I could afford to loan the money, or run bad, but not both. I needed to account for that. On the plus side my former friend got a nice 4.5 month vacation in Vegas out of this. This is a time when I wish I knew Tony Soprano. DON'T MAKE THESE MISTAKES!!!! |
