Default Computer Help Please!

I do not consider myself a computer genius by any means, but I know a little and need some help.

About a month ago I reinstalled Windows on my computer, which erased all my HD and I was forced to start from anew. At the time my computer would not load Windows and I was having a lot of trouble. Now I am having problems with my computer again. I can not install my SAM training program software for my school. I can not install Flash Media Player. If my computer is idle for more than 2 hours my internet will not work. I have to actually restart the computer to get it to work again. I can not get my computer to recognize my IPOD anymore. I can not update or add new songs.

My question is, what should I do? Should I take it to an expert? Should I upgrade something? I just want to be able to do school work, surf the web, play poker, run a poker tracking software, and save and play a lot of music, albeit ripped music.

I have AVG, Avast, ZoneAlarm, SpySweeper, and Ad-Aware 07 installed. I use only IE 7 and have Windows XP software.

I will respond to any questions promptly!

eMachines
T524
AMD Athlong(tm) 64 Processor
3500+
2.19 GHz, 896 MB of RAM

2 years old, I do not know about cooling problems

This is a computer that I got for school through my military benefits. I went to COMPUSA to purchase the computer and I did not question the capability because the computer was given to me to do school work.

PS
I have been getting a Virtual Memory error message that I can not remember exactly what it saids.

Strange that you reloaded and you're having problems again.

Difficult to diagnose, could be hardware fault, could be a bad install of Windows, you be virus/trojan problem.

If you can take it to an expert you should probably do so. Don't even need to be an 'expert', anyone with experience of installing Windows and diagnosing common software/hardware problems.

Download HijackThis and post your log here. I'll check it out in about 30 minutes when I'm at a different computer. It sounds like you have too much running. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET!

O PS: I use to have an external HD that I kept all my movies, music, PTH database, and other random folders and files on. Since I reinstalled windows I have not hooked that back up because it caused many problems while plugged in. I actually thought that was the problem. I do not know if the event are related?

-896Mb Ram? Are you supposed to have a gig of ram?
-Virtual memory issues...see if any of this helps:
http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_can...n_windows.html
-Have you checked task manager and sorted by CPU to see if anything is hogging resources...then sort by memory to see what is a RAM hog
-Go to msconfig and stop all unnecessary programs from starting
-Get the actual error message you are getting and post that

Not sure if these will help...post a hijackthis log as funkyworms suggested also.
