Re: stealing my money
I dont see why this subject is funny to some posters.
My advice is, only play in well organized games. These kind of things shouldn't happend, ever. I host a homegame and at first we had pretty open rules about the money, but at times the money didnt always add up excatly (there was like 5-10 bucks or so missing couple of times). As a host of the game I paid for the missing money, but decided that we will switch to much more strict system regarding the money, and it works very well. Only one person can touch the money and the chips, and we usually write down every buy in and rebuy to make sure everythiing adds up. |

Re: stealing my money
I act as cashier in my homegame. I count the chips, place them on the table, ask the player to count them while his money is on the table, and then we exchange cash for chips. The reverse happens at the end of the night.
I'm wondering how any kind of an error could occur if you do it like the casinos do it... |

I dont see why this subject is funny to some posters. [/ QUOTE ] This post is hilarious on many levels. The OPs passive aggression is classic comedy, almost sit-comish. His story is both hard to swallow and delivered in a schizophrenic stream-of-conscious diarrhea, leading to a sort of reality-TV type of funny. (e.g. "My friends told me they don't owe me [censored] and drove away" --- don't know about you, but I usually cash people out from my house/poker table rather than my car, LOL) |

Its very hard to make any miscalculations like this. |

Re: stealing my money
if you are playing a 20 dollar buy-in and the pot only gets up to like 200... it must be like only 6 or 7 handed. it shouldnt be hard to keep track of paying. not to mention a loss of 40 dollars is MAJOR compared to the stakes. stand up for yourself and dont let them leave next time.
at my game when someone pays they show the money to the whole table and then stick it into the "pot" which is an empty card box. we keep the box on the table and it is in plain view the whole time. also when someone gets chips they are always double checked by someone to make sure they were counted out correctly. we usually play with 8-10 ppl with a 10-20$ buy in and at worst at the end of the night it is off by 5 dollars, which the winners who remain split up equally. |

[ QUOTE ]
You really come off like a wimp who's scared he will look bad. They weren't your friends in the first place. 2nd thing you won 500$ from your so called "friends". You had it coming to ya. Your line of action: Grow some self-esteem. [/ QUOTE ] While OP may not be eloquent, he did get a raw deal here. Since when do winning players "Have it coming" to be robbed at cash out? In my opinion, the host should bank the game. He should be the only one to handle the money, and he cashes out last. This is how I handle my home and bar games. If the pot gets screwed up, its the banker's mistake and the banker eats it. I once had a big winning night turn into a tiny win because the bank was off. It sucked, but I banked so I was responsible. Using chip racks helps keep the money accurate. Being able to grab a stack of exactly 20 chips easily makes buy-ins and rebuys much quicker. As for the rest of your attacks, he did confront them about the discrepancy, what more can he reasonably do? Getting into a fist fight over $40 is just dumb. Winning $500 over 6 months is no big deal either, averaging around a 2 buy-in win each session is pretty reasonable for a winning player. OP, you should never play in this game again. If they're willing to screw you at cash-out, they may be willing to collude, mark cards, or otherwise cheat you because "they don't owe you [censored]". Don't play with people you can't trust, find another game or host your own. |

Re: stealing my money
I think that the host or cashier should be held accountable. When money is missing, it is ridiculous to say that the "Big winner" should eat the loss. It should be divided equally among all the players. Everyone should be short $5 or something

Re: stealing my money
suggest a banker, put all the money in the cardbox. Only have one person handle the chips.
Slashing tires is dumb. put a nail behind the tire, you won't get caught, and it's just as satisfying |
