You win .... oh, wait, no you don\'t
Playing with normal group of poker degenerates in home game. I was on a flush draw, along with 4th pair on the turn. On river I miss, but bluff anyway, trying to bet other player off a mediocre hand, but one that beats my lowly pair.
He tanks for a while and finally says, "I call." ... my instant response is, "You win." -- until he turns over BOTTOM pair. Then I say, "Oh, no, you don't." and flip up my pair of 8s to beat his 6s. I never mucked my cards - had them in my hand the entire time - but my friend thought that it was unfair since I had said, "You win." and tried to take his last bet back. I told him that I never folded or mucked and another friend said, "Cards play." As a gesture of fairness, I told him that I would post the situation here to see what people thought... So? |

Re: You win .... oh, wait, no you don\'t
Any chatter outside "fold, check, bet, call, raise, all in" has no game meaning whatsoever and cannot be used to force an action.
Also, asking for such a ruling is quite unethical by your friend. Trying to use/abuse rules to win a hand that he lost is just plain bad manners. |

[/ QUOTE ] This has been discussed before both here and in B&M. You win because you tabled your cards. Cards speak. It's not unusual for someone on a draw with a small pair to assume if he was called that there's no way he can have the winning hand. Happens all the time at the casino. Tell your friend that next time he sees a draw heavy board he should think twice about just calling with bottom pair (or don't tell him and keep taking his money). |

Re: You win .... oh, wait, no you don\'t
When I say something like this, I usually apologize for misleading them afterwards.
But, it certainly doesn't kill your hand in most places. I'd be more careful, upgrade to "okay, you must win then" which is farther away from an "I fold" variation. |

Re: You win .... oh, wait, no you don\'t
Cards speak- it is one of the fundamental rules of poker, and you should be able to pick up a book of poker rules to prove this easily enough if any doubt remains.
