Re: Paris Hilton
There was along OOT Thread about this awhile ago.
She is much more smart/talented than the average person believes. Alobar made a very good post where he basically said people like to think if they were Paris Hilton they could be as successful as her and her success is merely a matter of circumstance. These people are lying to themselves because they can't come to grips with the fact that they aren't that special. |

The lack of any supporting evidence in that argument makes it as ridiculous as the claim itself. Who is actually benefiting from her publicity? It seems to me that its everyone but her and her family. Do people really think "hmm, lets stay at the Hilton instead of the Marriott, that Paris girl is famous!" The restaurants, the networks, the awards shows, etc. are the ones cashing in on her fame. Its not like she is getting movie deals left and right. What would you all say her biggest income flow is from? |

Re: Paris Hilton

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Its obvious that she is business savvy and knows how to make money. In that sense she is fairly smart. It also seems like she is a moron. So, both [/ QUOTE ] it SEEMS like she is a moron though, the extent of what I know of her comes from her porno's and what I see here, I never watch the news about her/or anything she does. Seeming like a moron is completely different than being one though. [/ QUOTE ] American culture more and more revolves around the cult of celebrity, and Paris is the first true professional celebrity - in the sense that she does absolutely nothing to be a celebrity (sports, movies, politics, etc.) - she just IS. Madonna was the first true pioneer of hype/promotion, but Paris has taken it to a whole new level, in the sense that there is nothing behind the hype. Think back to the classic Seinfeld NBC pilot shows - "the show is about nothing" - brilliant foreshadowing a decade before it came to be. Paris is a show about nothing. And why do people watch it? To quote Costanza, "because it's on TV". Porn stars are now legitimate celebrities - I mean it's now almost culturally OK to take 2 dicks in your ass at the same time because you are "famous". Paris is a moron in the sense that she is absolutely ignorant and ditzy, but she know that pub = money, and she has great handlers. Classic case of any pub is good pub. [/ QUOTE ] I 100% agree with this. How can anyone argue that she is anything but a moron just because she fills some sort of void that people need. |

I'd say it isn't very good at all. How does her appearance fee indicate whether her success is due to circumstance or talent? You seem to have confused 2 separate parts of the post. I'm not sure where the appearance fee could be proven as fact, but even assuming it is fact, is it even close to her top income producer? |

[/ QUOTE ] I'd say her top income producers are either her perfume or clothing line, with 'Simple Life' probably coming in third place. The success of all those are directly linked to her ability to keep herself in the public eye. If the argument come's down to how much is luck or skill though its impossible to determine, but then that's pretty much true for every successful person in any career. |

[ QUOTE ]
PP, Excellent post. "How deliberate do you think she and her people are in successfully branding her? " Very, very deliberate. I'll write a longer post on this topic later. In the meantime, check out this article on Steve Jobs and the iPhone. A lot of parallels between that and Paris Hilton. http://blogs.business2.com/apple/200...s-one-the.html [/ QUOTE ] After reading the article with your post in mind, it's quite funny how right you are. |
