Re: Fire Jack Effel Now!!!!
[ QUOTE ]
high $$$ clientel???? you're a poker player. casino make a rake off your play. if you are a high limit player, they get time, which is less. poker is not a "house" game. you will not get perks. you guys have got to realize this. and for jack, the tourneys are running as smooth as possible. every year everyone says "this is the worse year yet." next year will also be the worse year yet. you can not have anything this huge go off without a hitch. come on. [/ QUOTE ] I have no reason to believe that Effel isn't up to the job. He is by no means the best touranment person out there, but I don't think anyone (outside of this thread) would pretend he is. I think you could hold the WSOP out in the test area and people would still come because it is the WSOP. |

Re: Fire Jack Effel Now!!!!
p,
"The funny thing about it, you guys don't have the guts to say this [censored] to anyones face!!!!!" That is not true. We told all tourney staff at Tahoe how ridiculous it was that a group of friends signed up one after another and got sequential seating assignments, notified tourney staff immediately, and ended up sitting next to each other in groups of 3 and 2. |

[/ QUOTE ] If that happened, then it was either because the tournament was sold out, and no one was willing to change seats, or the tournament had already started! If you did have problems, then I am very sorry that you had to go through that, and it was just a fluke, because I can assure you, we do try our best to accommodate everyone when possible! Another thing, one reason you guys could have received the same table, maybe the Tournament was getting ready to start and they were only releasing 1 table at a time, so they would not have to do a re-draw! If you open up too many seats, and then don't sell all of them, you have to do a manual re-draw, which really sucks! |

Re: Fire Jack Effel Now!!!!
[ QUOTE ]
I like Daniel, but I definitely am sick of his inability to get things improved, despite always claiming to have the correct answer in advance and being involved in the political process. What's the point of being involved if you're powerless to change anything? [/ QUOTE ] In Daniel's defense, he is probably the biggest proponent among the committee members of good structures, and certainly the most vocal about bad structures. For instance, I doubt he would have supported the gutting of FT structures in the full table NL/PL holdem events. Things also need to be kept in perspective. DN is only one member of an "advisory" committee. I suspect Harrahs is receptive to committee recommendations that entail little or no cost----but at the end of the day Harrahs sets the structure. |

Re: Fire Jack Effel Now!!!!
[ QUOTE ]
Players who play badly postflop would prefer a structure that forces everybody to play more preflop, which reduces the edge that good players have on suckers. Any pro player would not have any interest in that though. IMO, the FT structure was changed so that there would be less to film and that the "exciting" hands (all-in confrontations, monster bluffs etc) would be seemingly more common and thus entertaining to those who are watching. [/ QUOTE ] I suspect you are correct regarding the truncating of the the FT structure (i.e. ESPN/internet broadcast related). I disagree that ALL pros are good/great post flop players, or that all pros are better post-flop players than pre-flop players. In addition, players can have different views and different agendas. For instance some would take a worse structure in return for not having to play a long day. Not everyone thinks like Shaniac, myself and most people on this forum. |

Re: Fire Jack Effel Now!!!!
People have this perception that running a poker tournament is so difficult. It is not. It is checkers. If someone can run a computer program to execute a tournament, how hard can it be. I love it when people say "Jack McClellan could run a tournament better than Jack Effel, or anyone else for that matter."
Jack McClelland, to my knowledge, has never run a tournament with 3,000 people in it. He never had 8,000 people converge to a single 6-window cage in a 12-hour period. Just exactly how would Jack handle these items is a mystery for sure. I am guessing, but I have to think MGM-Mirage would never allow the abortion that happens at Rio to happen at one of its properties, but one never knows. The real issue here, I think, is whether or not Jack Effel has the people and customer service skills to handle an event like WSOP. The answer is not even close. Look, in year 3 of the explosion, all the overflow issues should be handles. When an event is listed to start at noon, and it starts at 2:30, it means you got the deer in the headlights syndrome. That pisses off players and Jack has no answers for that. When players like Dan Druff talk about playing in a tent that is either 100+ degrees or about to tumble in the wind, and the players want answers, you need to give it to them, not the political crap like Jack offers. When there are still color up issues happening - no leadership. The TD should be the most knowledgeable person on the floor - he is not. He should provide the best customer service, he does not. He should at least have a minimum level of customer service skills - he has less. This is the 2nd year in a row where the Tournament Director is like the 8th or 9th best tournament authority in the room. Remember last year, when Prahlad Friedman and Jeffrey Lisandro almost has a fist fight when the tournament was nearing its end??? The thing that struck me was how there was no sight of Bob Daily or Jack Effel. A floorman had to do the work of the Tournament Director. HOW IN THE WORLD CAN A TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR, IN CHARGE OF ADMINISTERING AN EIGHT-TWO-MILLION PRIZE POOL, not be on the floor when the event is down to 30 players????? It is because the last guy, Daily, and the current guy Effel (who was there last year) are totally weak. Grooms was there from start to finish, as was Savage, as was McClelland. That is what a good TD does, not sit in an office and stiff the players. Sorry ENEPrincess - I have been in gaming longer than you have, for sure, and Effel is horrible. He is not horrible because of the items listed at the top of the post, that fault lies with HET. He is horrible because he is invisible when the real heat (pardon the pun) comes down, which is the worst customer service I have ever seen. He is no Johnny Grooms, that is for damn sure. |

Re: Fire Jack Effel Now!!!!
From following the threads this year I think the problems that have gotten the most complaints at the tournament this year have been:
1) The Tent 2) The Cards 3) The Structure of the events Perhaps Randy or some of the others could tell me which of these items could Jack have Vetoed as Tournament Director. If you were in his shoes what would you do about them Randy, El Diablo ? Sometimes your boss puts you in a bad position and you have to do your best to get by. Randy you already said you wouldn't work for Harrah's, Why ? I know they owe you money but if that were settled would you work for them, I doubt it, because from the people I talk to I get a reoccurring theme: they (management) won't support you, They put you in bad positions where it is sometimes no win... So like I said earlier I think most of problems are above Jacks pay grade. |

Color-ups, table-breaking orders, tent issues ARE HIS JOB!!!! He is invisible for the things he CAN control. |
