i think comedy would be extremely different today if the studio had allowed mel brooks to cast one of the writers as bart like he wanted to. some guy named richard pryor.

Pryor did have a huge impact. I think he's almost universally regarded as the best comic of at least the last 35 years. I wonder how different you think things could have been.
