A couple of important updates:

1) this thread is now Google's first search result for "middle class monogamy". You have only yourselves to thank.

2) Google's second search result is, coincidentally enough, also the second-best presentation of my argument on the internet today. A blogger points out that the government will not tolerate flagrant polygamy, but gets off on some tangent about tax dollars and misses the most important connection (which I did not miss and thoughtfully hit for you all):
