learning how to play stud, where to start?
I want to learn how to play stud (7-card high). I know the rules etc and have played some hands today but I am looking for some standard stratagy for beginners like what hands to raise, opening hands, evaluating your hand etc etc.
Does anyone know a good place for this? |

Re: learning how to play stud, where to start?
I never played poker before and started with 7 card stud. I used Sklansky's book Seven Card Stud For Advanced Players. I read it every day for 6 months then jumped into a live 10/20 game. I didn't want to start lower because I didn't want to pick up bad habits from the getgo. You probably should start out cheap on an internet site until you get your feet wet. Despite the title, the book is a good starting point. I also bought The Theory Of Poker as a companion book. However you do it, the main point is...it's work to do anything properly.

Re: learning how to play stud, where to start?
Taking a brief look at your posting history, it looks like you've studied poker at least some. I think you can jump right into 7CS4AP. If you happen to have the original Super/System, Chip's section on stud is excellent--the one section of that book that has stood the test of time. Participating here probably won't hurt.
