Re: What do you fear?
This thread seems to be more about "phobias" rather than fears. I don't really have phobias, but my fears are:
Not being able to support my family (I don't have kids yet). To combat this, the gf and I save/invest roughly 50% of our combined Gross annual income. Yeah. And we don't even make that much. And also fear of seeing my future kids harmed. I know I did a lot of dumb stuff when I was a kid and it's inevitable that mine will do likewise. I fear the thought of something bad happening to them and having to see them in pain. Oh, I guess I also fear watching my parents die. Those days will likely suck, but I think they will pale in comparison to the first 2 I listed. |

Re: What do you fear?
This may be hard to explain, but what I fear most is stupidity. I think stupidity causes more misery in the world than intentional evil.

Re: What do you fear?
I've never admitted this before, but ... the control dials on my stove are numbered from 1 to 10. I'm afraid to go past about 8 and a half.

Re: What do you fear?
Mediocrity / not having financial freedom.
I don't want to be stuck in the "american dream" of working 9-5 until you are 67.5 and can get social security. This quote somewhat sums it up: "The answer to all of this is very clear: Go back to school, get your education, embark on an upper-middle class white collar career, marry an average looking woman, buy a 3 bedroom house in the suburbs that you will be paying the mortgage on for the next 30 years, have 1.5 kids, and pursue a socially acceptable life of mediocrity, all the while feeling generally unfulfilled and empty inside." |

Re: What do you fear?
[ QUOTE ]
Getting a job. Seriously, I'm not just trying to be cute. My job experience to date: I was ~15, a friend of mine was sick and he asked me to be a side-line referee (not the main referee) for a soccer game. I play soccer, I know what offside is etc. I was extremely nervous, screwed up a lot, got yelled at a bit, and totally hated the experience I was ~17 and I was working this concession stand which was a fundraiser. Again, I hated it. Every time a customer came up I got really nervous, and I'd worry about screwing something up and pissing him off. I was just selling packets of candy and drinks, lol When I imagine what a job would be like, I imagine I'm always deathly afraid of being incompetent, and getting my boss pissed off/disappointed in me What does this all mean? [/ QUOTE ] pretty normal for the first day of a job. I hated it for a week until I got more comfortable, then its not so bad. |
