Turn makes it messy
Poker Stars
Limit Holdem Ring game Limit: $1/$2 10 players Converter Pre-flop: (10 players) Hero is UTG+2 with K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] UTG folds, UTG+1 raises, Hero 3-bets, 7 folds, UTG+1 calls. Flop: T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (7.5SB, 2 players) UTG+1 checks, Hero bets, UTG+1 calls. Turn: 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4.75BB, 2 players) UTG+1 checks, Hero ..... So I thought about a b/f here but villain was unknown to me at the time and figured there weren't many cards left to hurt me so I considered a check behind to induce a river bet and see a showdown. c/f didn't enter my head for some reason. What's my best line? |

Re: Turn makes it messy
I honestly don't see any other way to play it then b/f. If you have a read on your opponent as someone who would try a raise bluff here (which he didn't)you could check call down I suppose.
Bet for value. Your hand is likely best. edit: I could also be talked into the check behind in hopes of inducing a river bluff. |

Re: Turn makes it messy
gotta bet fold, the chances of him having a diamond are not super high and what is he raising that we beat?

what is he raising that we beat? [/ QUOTE ] Point taken. Some opponents get a bit spewy and raise bluff here at times. It would be extremely read specific to make the call down on that. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I thought this but then I figured if I was putting in another bet why not do this on the river and see a showdown? There really can't be that many cards that can hurt me now? |

Re: Turn makes it messy
I would have automatically checked behind on the turn to see a showdown, which is wrong. A read would be nice, but if you're ahead (and I think you are enough of the time), checking behind gives him a freeroll for 9 outs to tie, and sometimes another 3 outs to hit his straight, sometimes a couple more for two pair. A turn bluff is so unlikely against an unknown in this spot, and a bet will sometimes induce him to incorrectly fold a KQ or similar -- b/f.
