interesting spot with JJ overpair in raised pot......induce a bluff?
here is my thought process on this hand (no previous history with villan):
i bet the flop to see if i am ahead...on the turn i am not sure anymore so i check to see if he'll take the free card....he doesnt so i think he could just be trying to take the pot down as the bet is not that strong.... on the river i elect to call 22 to win 98 as i only need to be ahead one in 4.5 to break even here so i figure its a reasonable call with an over pair. this involves a change of strategy for me. before i read this post from juu (although it was a reraised pot which is different i guess), i would always have bet that turn. what do you think? you could argue i am forfiting my fold equity to encourage him to stack off with a worse hand, either that or i am becoming a calling station. which is it? i guess you could say that if the money is going in anyway then i need to put it in first, but im not sure that maximises my profit if i am ahead. i am interested to know peoples thought processes here. Re: interesting spot with JJ overpair in raised pot......induce a bluff?
I think villain is too short stacked for you to fold the river. c/c is better than bet/call. And he is too short to make a blocking bet.
You beat TT, 99, 88, and missed over cards. I don't think he has missed over cards given the action on the flop and turn. 77 just made a straight on the river. Just about every low pair has a set. Just about all low connectors have 2-pair. If you both had more chips, then you could probably block/fold the river. I suppose you could have checked the flop, but that has problems too. I think your line is ok and you have to call the river because of the pot odds and the fact that he still could have TT, 99, 88 or air often enough to make a c/c marginally profitable. |

Re: interesting spot with JJ overpair in raised pot......induce a bluf
You have no FE here against stuff that beats you, so checking turn I like.
River is an interesting question, I go both ways depending on how I feel about the situation. Betting doesn't let TT-88 check behind while checking allows missed draws and goofy hands bluff. Here I think I like betting better as there aren't that many missed draws. I don't think can get away from this against a shortstack. |

whats wrong with betting the turn?
To me it seems c/c isn't that great cause it lets villain draw for cheap. so i think Bet>>>>>>>>>>>c/r>>>>c/c |

I think you played it perfectly. Folding the river for that price should never be a consideration. Villain could have 22, 88, 99, TT, AK, AQ. At these stakes giving an unknown credit for a big hand when you're getting those kind of odds is a big mistake IMO.
