Re: Juicy Games
I think of it a bit differently...
I figure keep 30 buyins for whatever level you know you can beat (or 40 for HS). After that you can gamble if u have 2 buyins if you're certain you have an edge and the balls to play properly. |

Re: Juicy Games
[ QUOTE ]
depends what type of juicy games they are.. [/ QUOTE ] I think "taking a shot" at a juicy game and moving up in stakes are two different animals. 1.If you see an oppurtunity to play in a game(i am assuming live play) with a few inferior foes that is ABOVE your current stakes,I would want to be properly rolled with AT LEAST TWO buy-ins of 300 BB+ or more,to allow for the short term affect of just being "second best" or cold-decked in that particular session. You may find it tough sometimes, when sitting down with weak players, trying to FORCE the action due to the fact of having a "I have/want to win NOW mentality" and it backfires due to just bad short term luck. e.g. you may find 5 or so opp.'s,over a year, and lose in ALL five due to variance of such a small sample size, even though you feel you are the superior player. 2.As to moving up in stakes on a more permanent basis (say going from 10/25 to 25/50 or 25/50 going to 50/100 etc ),I think you HAVE to be properly bankrolled, and as Jman28 pointed out NEVER risking more than 5-10% of your B/R at any one time. I think the most important factors in game selection which are important are: $$$size of game you are talking about, the # of players who are STRONG is just as important as those that you feel are WEAK,amount of $$$ on the table in play,if the game just started-a must move game, who is STUCK,and on and on. I mean ONLINE,would you move UP in stakes way above and way out of your league to sit down with sbruby,Ivey,P.A,etc. "to take a shot"?? NO I think everyone at one time HAS or wants to move up and take a shot playing at higher stakes to see how they do,and it really just comes down to not getting in over your head and blowing monies that you are not comfortable with or at least know you have some sort of B/R stop loss if it doesnt work!! Good Luck ~stephen |

Re: Juicy Games
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Haha. Grim and I shouldn't give advice because we're bad at this. But since you asked, nothing wrong with taking a shot for 5% of your roll. 10% if you swear to yourself that you quit right after. I've taken bigger shots, but I don't think they were good ideas. [/ QUOTE ] Didn't you write an article about this in this months bluff? It was a good one fwiw [/ QUOTE ] Yeah I did, thank you. I tried to talk more about the psychology of playing higher and less about bankroll management because I'm not really a BR management expert. |
