The Black Swan, which came out last week, is as good or better than FBR.

snow: crunch some numbers, high fees is all well and good in high return years, but they really really [censored] with you in low return or negative return years. [/ QUOTE ] Well, you must distinguish btw fee and carry. 20% carry on a 1% year is 20bps. You pay more than that for almost any mutual fund. At zero or less, you pay no carry, and many good managers will reduce or rebate the fees. Obviously, there are high-water marks as well. Al - if a great manager has gone from 1.5/20 to closed, many people would gladly pay 2/25 for access. Naj |

I just skimmed this thread and saw Natural Gas. I work on the trading floor in the Natural Gas pit. (i'm one of those monkeys holding two phones and yelling all day). Just wanted to add that computers are taking all of our jobs and open-outcry will soon be gone. Computers are being programmed to trade and taking the human element out of it. Destroying the markets. I'm hoping to squeeze another year or two out this lemon but, I honestly don't know how we can survive. Commisions on Globex trades are very cheap but, like I said.. its "trade for a tic" nowadays instead of making a few cents or more on a trade. [/ QUOTE ] why did everyone forget their kippahs? |

Compulsive excessive disorder. I agree with Guids: anyone who is capable of making that much money is usually in it for other reasons then money, as lame and pathetic as that sounds to guys like you and me. |

And en example of the "failing upward" issue [/ QUOTE ] How is being forced to start over with a single investor "failing upwards"? [ QUOTE ] Robert ``Bo'' Collins, founder of the $400 million MotherRock LP hedge fund that collapsed last year, plans to start a new energy trading company next month. The firm will be called 1.618 Group LLC, a reference to a mathematical term derived from the Fibonacci sequence, and have less than $100 million, which came from a single investor, according to people with knowledge of the company's plans who asked not to be identified by name. Collins isn't trying to raise more money for now, the people said. ``To get back in the game, he has to show a new record, and he can't rely on prior periods,'' Geoffrey Bobroff, an independent money-management consultant in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, said in an interview today. ``To the extent he's got his own money or insider money, he can build a record.''
