AKs, trying to learn a little more about the math of poker.
NL400, 6max (5 handed)
14/9 player UTG raises to $16 Hero in SB raises to $44 with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG calls Flop ($83) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I bet $70, he thinks and pushes for effectively $400 more. 386:622. I've gotta have 38.5%+ equity. What's a fair range distribution (assuming I have A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]?) Would you rather call with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] here? * * * Scenario 2. Same thing except I'm SB, Villain is BB. UTG raises to 16, I raise to 44, BB cold calls, UTG folds. Same flop action. Does this change your play? Does this change your range distribution for villain? |

Easy call, I'd rahter have AA of course as thiis is 3bet. If it was just a raise pot... AK[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] is better.

Re: AKs, trying to learn a little more about the math of poker.
I've seen overbets from all sorts of hands, so I can't say. In a raised pot, two pair, set and straight (along with something like 9x[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7x[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], QJ[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and so forth are all far more likely, and AK is at least drawing live against a set or straight.
In a 3bet pot especially from a 14/9 guy raising UTG, AA is >> AK because he often has KK or QQ. |

And he could easily be just calling preflop with QQ,KK, and AA... but same with any pocket pair. This hand probably wasn't worth posting, since I didn't realize how much equity I have, even against KK+ until I started looking at it after the fact. I folded (groan), but in my defence, I wasn't paying attention and completely misread the odds as well as the preflop action. |

Re: AKs, trying to learn a little more about the math of poker.
depending on his exact range it's either a close call or a close fold. I wouldn't sweat it too much. You have a better idea of his range than we do, so just toss it in PokerStove and see what it says.

Is checking the flop an option? I was hoping to bet/3bet AI, but he didn't give me the chance.

Re: AKs, trying to learn a little more about the math of poker.
Why is re-raising a 14/9 with AK from the blinds good? I sometimes call here, but usually re-raise, and feel like when I 3bet I get stuck in bad spots too much. Is calling preflop here awful?

just out of interest does anyone play KK any different from AA here ?
How about with 200bb stacks ? |
