Re: BRAG: made my own card case for class project (lots of pics)
re: the ball end mill and engraving - yeah i bet that would look really cool for a lot of things - one project i saw during the presentations used that and it looked cool. but that wouldn't have worked for the design i wanted - there's no way i could manually engrave that image.
the cards: they're actually pretty nice cards. about 4-5 bucks a pack. they're a little nicer than the standard plastic-coated bicycle cards or whatever, and they look about 10x better. COPAGS are still the way to go for actually playing cards, for sure. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] That's pretty neat. Could you post a pic detailing how the slide mechanism works? A blueprint would be pretty cool. [/ QUOTE ] what do you mean by slide mechanism? the hinge? the latch? i'll upload some pics once i know what you mean. [/ QUOTE ] Between the 3rd and 4th pic, how exactly is the section holding the cards popping up and sliding over? Ahh, I see, you manually remove the tray? [/ QUOTE ] Oh, sorry the angle I took that from is kind of weird. It's just a removable tray, looks like this: so yeah you just pull on the little tab to take the tray out and then the cards are easy to get at. [/ QUOTE ] Ty for that. Don't worry, you only lose 0.01 James Bond points for think not ejecting and then transforming into a gun. It's very and if you could find a way to semi-mass produce them you'd have a nice product on your hands. |

Re: BRAG: made my own card case for class project (lots of pics)
haha yeah my original idea was to have this platform inside that would be lifted up when you opened the case but that proved to be too hard to manufacture.
i think this would be a product that some people would buy (it really does look nice in person) but each case would cost about 30 dollars just in materials, and labor would add another couple hundred, so haha i don't see that happening anytime soon. maybe one of the ballers out there want to commission me to make one? one of the accompanying classes that we were required to take actually asked us to look into mass-manufacturing and what our plan would be for that, and i think i estimated that it would cost about 50 a case, assuming you could make a couple thousand and you already had all of the necessary equipment. anyways, thanks to everyone who thought it looked good. i'm really proud of it so haha yeah... |
