For a totally different vibe than anything anyone has mentioned--fireside lounge at the peppermill

although it's not nearly as good with the tvs they put in a few years back

As long as we're mentioning old school one-of-a-kind places, we might as well mention The Carousel Bar at Circus Circus.

But it does not meet the requirements of the OP at all.

The Carousel Lounge is nice but isn't it next to that arcade game where the balloons keep exploding. So much for quiet.

I like the Peppermint Lounge. No.. No.. I mean the Peppermill lounge across the street. Sit by the fire, enjoy your drinks and admire the cocktail waitress.

Shag - with a gal Mix is a great place to hang. Amazing views, decent music and good all around vibe. Plus once you walk across the Luxor bridge to MB, the Mix elevator is just a few yards into The Hotel entrance.

At the South end of the strip, I really like Red Square in Mandalay.
