Re: Angel Largay Book
[ QUOTE ]
I purchased the book back in September when it first came out in the hope that it would help my online poker game. However, the focus was on the LLNL games that are in casinos. [/ QUOTE ] That is a clear fault of the book. The subtitle is "A Complete Course", which it is not, by any stretch of the imagination. It should just be titled "LLNL Holdem" or some such. [ QUOTE ] The debatable portion of the book which he says he called a raise with 82s must be put into context. As dubious as that section is, the point was that sometimes you need to take chances to see what happens. Call it donk style if you must, but it is what it is. [/ QUOTE ] I agree it's often taken out of context, but your explanation didn't exactly do Largay any favors. The point was that a) his pot odds were actually pretty good b) he felt it was worth some risk to get a bigger stack to play in that game (get over the max buyin) c) he felt he had the style and skills to benefit more from the bigger stack than the max buy in. Therefore he was willing to accept a *small* -EV on the play to gain more profit another way. Grocery stores and other businesses call this a "loss leader". How much loss it is worth is debatable. (Stores might sell 2-liters of Coke at wholesale, but they're not going to sell it for 5 cents.) [ QUOTE ] I would recommend the book for the reasons mentioned along with the fact that there ISNT much else out there that is suitable for the topic which he discusses. [/ QUOTE ] Agreed. |

Angel makes it very clear that is what the book is focusing on - low limit, capped buy-in B&M cash games. IIRC, Angel even said in a magazine interview he didn't agree with having "comepete" in the title. That decition was made on the part of the publisher. A publisher who does not regularly publish poker books - Rather, mostly books on pro wrestling... |

Re: Angel Largay Book
Whats the difference between LLNL games on the internet and at B&M? what buy-ins/table stakes is the book covering?

Re: Angel Largay Book
Angel covers a lot of stuff like physical clues you can get about a person's play-style by how they dress, how they stack their chips, stuff like that. Stuff that has no meaning on-line.
The book covers 1-2 & 2-5 NL B&M games with buy-in caps of ~100BB. |

Re: Angel Largay Book
LLNL games which are usually 1/2 NL and 2/5 NL are in my opinion,at least for the the 1/2 game, are like 25NL or 50NL online. The games are extremely beatable. I will tell you, that I am still a microgrinder online after eighteen months of play, while I am a solid winner in the B&M hands down. After seven consecutive weeks of play, I am up over $3000!
Low Limit No Limit poker, is a game in which every type of player sits down at the table. The range is from the shark like player who is there to build a bankroll to the novice that just wants to gambool it up a bit in a live setting. |

The title being part of the book, it's a "flaw" of the book. I did not by any means mean that the book should be a "complete course". [ QUOTE ] IIRC, Angel even said in a magazine interview he didn't agree with having "comepete" in the title. That decition was made on the part of the publisher. Whats the difference between LLNL games on the internet and at B&M? what buy-ins/table stakes is the book covering? [/ QUOTE ] The book does not discuss internet play. I would estimate that the strategy in the book relates most closely to $5 max buyin internet play, possibly $10. For live play, it covers games such as the popular $1/2 NL $200 max buyin, or some $2/5 NL games with $500 max buy in. |
