BBB I think your analysis is on point BUT... IMHO we can make more money playing with 'em than we can by playing like 'em. Why wouldn't we just call the preflop raise. Then we are in position to a) raise if we get a bit of the flop or: b) fold it for cheap or even call if we miss the flop.
Are we building equity by 3 betting preflop? Or by playing our missed maybe overcard aggressively on the flop? Sure we could be ahead here but we could also be dominated. |

It think just calling and capping are fine. I would cap because I likely have an equity advantage and position. I would call because I don't have much of a read on the player and would like to keep the pot smaller to compound post-flop mistakes (by him.) A post-flop read helps here as well so you know when your A high is good. That being said, that board is just about the worst one you want to see so I would probably give up on the flop.
