In Jim McManus's book "Positively Fifth Street" (Excellent book) he talks about the controversy when one player "Hasan" goes over to a seasoned pro "Tony Ma" and talks to him on the rail. One player to a hand. But Jamie was constantly going over to Johnny Chan and getting advice and encouragement. Is that fair? With his chip lead it probably didn't matter, but isn't that illegal. If I was Allan Cunningham I'd have shot him or Chan. Of course Allan is too nice, but you get the picture. Any thoughts?

I only saw the broadcast, but I only saw Gold go over to Chan between hands or after the money was already all in.

In live play with friends, a couple play, and one of them usually gets knocked out early. The one remaining shows that person their cards. Since i know how the player that was knocked out plays, i can easily get body language reads. I think Gold asking Chan for advice is just a fish begging a shark for help. Play your game, and have confidence, because knowledge is everything,
The Jam PS feel free to respond i'm new to the game and would like feedback. |

If the hand is over or the money's already in you can say whatever you want to whoever you'd like.

Hasan was in the middle of a hand, Gold was between hands. Big difference.

No, not abs, I spend most of my time at Ornery Americans (political discussion forum started by the author Orsen Scott Card)
Even if Gold was talking to Chan after the hand I still contend that it is a huge advantage to have one of the best in the world tell you if you are playing well or not. And at one point Chan told Gold to stay away from Allen. Of course anyone would have known that but to have it reenforced by Chan in my opinion definitely is a plus. Whatever happened to one player per hand? KE |

On the broadcast, he only spoke with Chan between hands, not during hands.
That said, I'd be in favor of players not being able to leave their seat, even when it's a head-up all-in situation. The rule should be not just one play to a hand; it should also be one player to a seat. |
