Question: Without much of a read, how much are we willing to call on the river? Or is there no reasonable bet we should call here?

Up to like 700. He doesn't have an ace, but if he bet that, you could certainly fear a flush or a KJ/KQ.

You played it fine.

Personally, i hate the flop check.

SO many tourneys can be won vs weak tighties just by stealing the blinds then half pot bet on the flop, esp against a single caller from the blind. If you get craised, then you drop your 2nd pair crud kicker

You called his 600 donk bet on the turn, so why not bet that 600 on the flop, and put HIM in the horrible situation of figuring out what to do with his hand, oop, against someone threatening most of his stack on further rounds.

You're missing the critical information of how tight or aggressive the BB is.

But let's assume you know nothing about the BB. I agree with Omaha. If you're willing to make the call on the turn, then you were better off betting the flop, chasing away the draws and completing the steal. A bet of two-thirds the pot only needs to succeed 40% of the time to be profitable.

The river puts you in a tough position. You've never made BB make a decision, so you have no new information about his hand. The scare card means that a bet of 800 would have had a good chance of chasing out Ax--except then you should have bet the flop or raised the turn, so you really have to check the river down, because you've signalled that you have nothing netter than a weak Ace.

BB played it wrong unless he had a monster hand. If he caught just a piece of the flop and thought he might be ahead, he needed to bet it to see where he was, because there are too many draws out there. If he didn't catch the flop, then the turn bet isn't going to scare anyone with a hand better than Tx, and he's better off checking down the hand.

Indeed, how are you, as the bb, feeling about your 9s or 8s in the hole? Or anything else that has missed?

Or what if he had 56 of hearts, and loves his sooooooted connectors?

On the flop, he will drop them like a hot potato.

On the turn, he bets out to see where he is. If you raised, he would drop, if you call, you give him infinite odds to hit the 6 on the river.
