Default Windsor Casino in Canada

Anybody been to Windsor Casino before? I have a three day weekend coming up so a few buddies and I are planning a trip up there since we're all 19 now. A friend of mine said they have either NL 1/2 or 1/3 I don't remember, but I will be playing one of those the whole trip. Just wondering if anyone has played there and has any heads up about the level of play, venue, good deals, etc? Anything really is appreciated since none of us have been to Windsor or any casino before. Thanks.

Since nobody with more knowledge is picking this up I'll chime in since I played there once over a year ago. Hard to remember exactly how things were since these new poker rooms that only spread low limit NL and limit holdem all pretty much run together.

I believe the blinds were 1/2. I think $100 max buy-in. There was a mix of good and very bad players. I remember a discussion among three players at my table as to "how do you play limit holdem", "I don't get it", etc. A fairly inexperienced bunch but very enthusiastic about NO LIMIT TEXAS HOLDEM as usual. The thing that sticks in my memory was the friendliness of the players and the game. No TV hotdogging stuff or tantrums going on - everybody played with remarkably good manners. However the room was pretty new at that time and I'm sure things have "matured" a bit.

Windsor Casino's hotel is nice and not terribly expensive in the winter though the exchange isn't much help now and I've only been there midweek. As far as I know nothing much is comped in the casino.

One of the other attractions Windsor is known for is the selection of "Gentlemen's" clubs nearby the casino. It is a frequent destination for bachelor's parties and the like to go see the world class "peelers". Not exactly my cup of tea but I do find the Canadian terminology amusing.

I'd love to hear more about this if you don't mind. I'll be in the Detroit area in a few weeks for a weekend and am thinking of staying in Windsor instead of Detroit, and spending some time playing 1-2NL. Sounds like Casino Windsor is the best choice?

Bumping because I am going through the forum reading threads about the casinos in the Detroit/Windsor area while planning a weekend trip there towards the end of the month. Any comments about where to stay & play are appreciated.

I stayed at a hotel that was walking distance to the casino - it could have been motel 6 or something, just a bed to sleep on - inexpensive. The poker room is small, with sometimes long waiting lists - but overall I enjoyed my experience.

I played 1/2NL and 3/6limit and found the games to be soft. The 3/6 was full of weak/tight old men watching hockey and curling (for real). Play a taggy game there and you'll be fine.

The 1/2NL was decently loose, with a lot of pf raising. And it's Canadian money, so if you're down a 100, you're really not.

If you're going for a weekend, don't stay in the casino, they offered double occupancy for $249, and only had like 3 rooms left at noon of the day we wanted to stay over. We stayed at the travelodge down the street (4 minute walk if you go left out the main entrance of the casino and walk along the riverfront) and it was $99 for double occupancy, and the rooms were clean and comfortable.

The 3/6 limit is a senior citizen rock garden like paperjam said. If you cap preflop in position with a drawing hand and hit people will seriously get mad at you.

If they get a 5/10 limit game going, its slightly looser and more aggressive.

Never seen 10/20 limit.

They get a 10/20 NL uncapped going on some Fridays and Saturdays, and a $500 MTT on the last friday of every month, and other than that you mostly see 2/5 NL 200 max, and 1/2 NL 100 max. I've never played the 200 max, because 50 BB > 40, and the 100max NL is sufficiently juicy. Biggest cash I've ever had there is $1650, and you'll see an open raise to $20 and like 5 callers, so shove your monsters and don't try to squeeze in less than optimal situations, because people will cold call a $20 PFR and then call all in to a push behind them for their entire stack with marginal hands such as AJo. The best part about Windsor Casino 100 max is if you bet a flush draw, no one will ever believe you have it when it comes, and will pay you off with a hand as weak as TPGK.

In terms of nightlife, there are strip clubs and about 30 bars all within walking distance of the casino, and they are absolutely packed on weekends with Canadian and American students alike. The city smells wierd and is pretty dumpy, but its a fun place to go for a weekend.

Greektown and to a lesser extent MCC are absolute dumps, and I will never set foot in either of them again. They smell terrible, are dirty, and are full of complete scumbags. You're way better off going to Windsor, and I still have my fingers crossed on Detroit eventually sinking into the river or something. That city sucks.

See the post above this one. To reiterate:

- Detroit poker rooms are among the dirtiest, worst managed that I have ever seen;
- Windsor room is quite nice and well managed;
- You get a slight advantage at Windsor due to the exchange rate;
- The games are great - I think the above poster characterized them pretty well;
- People are friendly in Canada!

The only drawback to going to Windsor is the bridge/tunnel (bring your passport, it will make the process alot easier), but I always end up making the trip and feeling good about the decision.
