Tipping your tattoo artist?
I didn't wanna hijack the other tattoo thread, so, Im posting this here...I'm looking to get a tattoo soon, and was wondering what the etiquette is on tipping the person who does your work? Is it a flat rate? do you tip a percentage of what the tat costs?

Re: Tipping your tattoo artist?
I assume since you're asking this, it'll be your first tattoo...
Personally, I tip my girl, but she's the only girl I go to. My last tattoo was a 3 hour session and she charged me $220 for it. I just made the total $275, so $55 for her. She told me how artists have to buy all their own equipment including ink, and that the shop gets a cut of around 50%. If I am right about this being your first tattoo, then it will probably depend the most on size of the tattoo, the time, and if they're going to charge you by the hour or a by-peice price... Sorry if this didn't help, but I hope I gave you some insight. So what are you getting done??? JP |

Re: Tipping your tattoo artist?
I tip $25 for every $100 the tat costs. So if tat is $300 tip $75ish.
Tattoo artist is one person you want to like you |
