how to play against 84%pfr maniac?
Have been lurking for a while now, soaking up some of the great discussion and decided it was time to stop being a forum virgin and get posting. Hope you can help a newbie out.
I was having a good session then struggled after moving onto a table with what seemed like a couple of maniacs. One in particular was firing raises all over the place and going AI often then he slowplayed higher trips in the hand below. I think I should have raised preflop in late position but I had become more passive after seeing madness at the table. If villain had then re-raised I may have been inclined to fold and saved some $$. I also had been sucked out earlier by a calling station with 53s who caught flush on the river so I was being over-cautious. What's the consensus on strategy against such players, leave the table; or wait for a premium hand to bust him? Villain mentioned above is 84/23/1.4 over around 65 hands. I had seen him show down with nothing prior to this. Re: how to play against 84%pfr maniac?
wait for a premium hand to bust him
You had your answer right there. As played, I think you should have raised pre-flop. But with his numbers, and the action to that point, I go bust when that 9 hits the turn as well. Re-load, and stack him to get your money back. |

Re: how to play against 84%pfr maniac?
Against a player that raises so much pf, 3-bet much more liberally in position. As long as you play fairly decent hands, you will get it in with the best of it more often. I would reraise with AJ, TT+
However the villian you described here raises 23% of his hands (plays 84%) That means that his raising range is a lot tighter than what he calls with. It's still fairly loose though, so you can look him up in good spots. Raise him with a bit looser range when he limps. What you shouldn't do is make thin calls if he makes overbet pushes all of a sudden postflop. The hand itself is pretty standard, no way you're folding a set here. |

keikiwai: So instead of c-bet would you check-raise? Can you expand on why you don't like it (I'm guessing flush draw), and what you would do different on the flop?
thanks for the tips all, spot on. |

Re: how to play against 84%pfr maniac?
Raise pre-flop.
Postflop play was perfect, IMHO. Only TT and J8 are beating you, and you've got 10 outs against the straight. EZ call. |

don't think i like your flop bet at all [/ QUOTE ] Why? very few hands beat us here and even though it is mipossible to read someone who plays %84 of the hands I have to think 9's are better a good majoriy of the time here so why not get $$$ in the pot while you are pretty sure you are ahead. The turn card scares me more than this flop does. In addition to making us a set it also makes a str8 for many crappy hands a donkey like this is likely to play |

Re: how to play against 84%pfr maniac?
I'm probably not going all in on this guy with only trips and a J8 straight and a FD on the board. I might though and definitely have in the past LOL. But like everyone else, no one can fault you. Just reload to the max and tighten up.
