Re: ask KDawg about Jazz
I just want to remark that I'm impressed that Kdawg can make such lists. I actually started to write my own list of top or essential albums, but gave up when it became immediately apparent that I could not begin to produce a list short enough to be useful.
Indeed, I could add 5-6 albums of most of the artists he listed, all of which I consider to be of similar quality. Some of those guys simply put out a ton of incredibly consistent, high-quality material. For example, the albums released by Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Jackie McLean and Dextor Gordon in the 1960s are almost all excellent. |

I transcribed all of his solos off of soul station when I was in school. Hank Mobley- Roll Call, Soul Station, No Room for Squares(this one he really expands his range and it works real well) here's a newer one Chris Potter- Vertigo(potter is a guy to really watch out for. He has really come into his own in the past 6-7 years and is really a force to be reckoned with) Joe Lovano- Quartets: Live at the Village Vanguard(2 disc), Landmarks i know my lists are very saxophone heavy, but that is just the nature of my instrument and what I have listened to so taht I could gain proficiency on it. I'll keep adding to this list over time as more albums pop into my head and as I buy more albums too. |

I don't know the double album you are referring to, but I have the same group (released jointly as a Freddie Hubbard/Woodie Shaw album) calledd Double Take. [/ QUOTE ] I used to have this and tried to get it again recently as I lost my copy, and it appears to be out of print. |
