Good overlooked albums of 2006 - with links to tracks
Here are 10 albums from this year that aren't getting much rep on the boards. I think they're all pretty sweet, and have linked to the top tracks on youtube or another flash based player. Tell me what you think.
Band of Horses - Everything All The Time Folksy kinda stuff, heavy on the reverb. Similar to My Morning Jacket. Listen to The Funeral Cursive - Happy Hollow Indie, emo, punk, and ska roots shown in one track. Listen to Dorothy at Forty Danielson - Ships [censored] up pop with all kinds of instruments. Listen to Cast It At the Setting Sail I'm From Barcelona - Let Me Introduce My Friends Ensemble pop with horns and bells and [censored]. Think Architecure in Helsinki. Watch We're From Barcelona (YouTube) Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites It's kinda brooding and haunting music. Listen to Chinaberry Tree Phoenix - It's Never Been Like This Before Straight up indie pop. Awesome. Long Distance Call Pipettes - We Are the Piettes Chiefly British. Homage to 60s girl pop with an indie twist. Pull Shapes (YouTube) Sunset Rubdown - Shut Up I am Dreaming [censored] up. From the guys that brought you Wolf Parade. Stadiums and Shrines II The Elected - Sun, Sun, Sun Folksy, reminds me of Sufjan at times. Not Going Home TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain Driving percussion with a little bit of shoegazing. Wolf Like Me EDITED links for most tracks, should be a direct link to mp3s now |

Werd, my sleep-deprived friend. I'm quite behind so this is exactly what I need.

Mew won the monthly "Who's Next?" artist contest on Yahoo Music this month (for their video "The Zookeeper's Boy"). Lotta good music comes out of that contest. Interesting stuff. Weird. But good.
Phoenix's new album is pretty solid too. I don't have links to MP3's (and can't really do that since I'm at work), but Dave Melillo's EP "Talk is Cheap" is pretty excellent too for singer/songwriter stuff. |

[ QUOTE ]
The Elected - Sun, Sun, Sun Folksy, reminds me of Sufjan at times. Not Going Home [/ QUOTE ] I went to college with the guitar player from this band, and stayed in touch with him up until a few years ago. A lot of talent in this band (the lead singer is the guitarist for Rilo Kiley). Their myspace page has more songs. |

Did you know Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco fame) has a side project with Glenn Kotchke and Jim O'Rourke? Well, he does! And they're good! And they put out a 2006 release titled "Born Again in the USA". It's good, too!
Here's a song! Hey ChickenIt's pretty good, and it's not even the best on the album. YEAH! Sorry, Jack, but I'm tired and Danielson sucks. Yeah, I said it. So what? |

Also, I haven't seen anybody mention Lansing-Dreiden at all. Ok, they're a little weird and they look a little like Milli Vanilli, but A Line You Can Cross is without a doubt one of the best pop/rock (alternative? rock) songs released this year. Check it out.
Also, Jack's post is very good, I admit, and you probably should check out every band on the list. Even if you will find Danielson sucks...A lot... |

Jack,
The Funeral is my favorite song of the year. That album started out top 5 and has really grown on me more and more, it has easily been the most played album in my car...I think it has moved into the number one slot. ~td |
